Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Connecticut

I am glad you’re here

I’m Ruta McPartland, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the owner of Solutions Family Therapy LLC.

I have always been fascinated by people - our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships and the generational family influences that shape who we become. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I look at the many layers that contribute to your story and how those experiences continue to influence the patterns, emotions, or challenges that bring you to therapy today.

Much of my work focuses on grief in its many forms. Some clients come to therapy after the death of someone important, while others are navigating non-death losses such as parental abandonment, the end of relationships, career transitions, or life unfolding differently than expected. These experiences can feel heavy to carry alone and often deserve space to be acknowledged, processed, and understood.

I also work with many individuals who want to explore family-of-origin experiences and the narrative they carry about themselves and their relationships. Early attachment experiences, family roles, and relational patterns often continue to influence how we move through life today. Together, we gently explore these patterns and the stories that have kept you feeling stuck, while also identifying strengths that can help you move forward.

I strive to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable opening up and exploring thoughts and feelings you may have pushed aside for a long time. In the therapeutic work together, you won’t hear me say “just move on”, “get over it”, or “just do it”. You hear those messages enough. Instead, we make space for your experiences, work to strengthen coping skills, and begin making sense of what you’ve been carrying.

My approach to therapy is relational, client-centered, and grounded in mindfulness. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). At the heart of my work is the belief that meaningful change begins with understanding.

I intentionally keep a smaller caseload so I can offer thoughtful, individualized care and remain actively engaged in the work with each client. Therapy with me is collaborative - we move at a pace that feels right for you, and I will be a human alongside you in the process.

Before opening my private practice, I worked in an outpatient mental health clinic providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan. I also worked in a hospital setting serving adolescents and families in intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization program (IOP/PHP), providing individual, family, and group therapy. These experiences shaped my appreciation for the complexity of people’s lives and the resilience individuals bring to the work of healing and growth.

Ultimately, therapy is about helping you better understand your story so that you can move through life with greater clarity, steadiness, and authenticity.

Let’s stay curious together!

If you’re navigating grief, family experiences, life transitions, or the stress of daily life that feels difficult to carry alone, I would be honored to support you in making sense of your experience and discovering solutions from within.

A large factor in therapy being successful is having a strong, trusting and positive relationship with your therapist.
